Kelly O’Neill

Studio M

Guest Artist

Visual Arts

Kelly is a multidisciplinary visual artist who enjoys the immediacy of dry materials in her drawing practice, and engages with found objects, natural materials, video, assemblage, and textile practices to create three-dimensional forms and installations.

Rather than having a preferred choice of medium, Kelly investigates various materials to express ideas, emotion and memory. Highly process-driven, Kelly’s work is often more about the making than the outcome; ideas form and shift in relationship with materials and in the act of making. It is through this relationship, this conversation with materials, that Kelly explores the fluidity and impermeability of human experience,  seeks to learn about herself and the world around her and to discover poetry in the everyday.

Having had an art practice throughout her life that often came second to other responsibilities, O’Neill returned to school full-time and completed her BFA in Sculpture and Installation at OCAD University, Toronto, ON. (2018) Her work has been shown in galleries in Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia including J.B. Aird Gallery, Toronto; Pendulum Gallery, Vancouver; WKP Kennedy Gallery, North Bay; Art Mur, Montreal, and The Art Gallery of Peterborough.

Kelly lives and works in Selwyn, Ontario and is pleased to be joining Molly Moldovan in her studio at 1000 Clydesdale Rd. Tallan Lake,  Apsley.

More natural dye experiments on the line. Lac dye comes from a resin secreted by the female Lac insect and is collected in the wild and cultivated in India, south east Asia, Burma, Bhutan and South China. Lac yields crimson reds to dark purples as the ph of the vat is manipulated. The dyes I use are ethically sourced. If you’d like to see these textiles in person - along with some of my small sculpture pieces, the jewellery work of @timbersfrances and the abstract paintings of our host @mollymoldovanstudio please visit “Studio M” during the @apsley_autumn_studio_tour this weekend September 16-17 10am-5pm. apsleystudiotour.com #apsleyautumnstudiotour2023 #natualdye #textiles #studiotour #ontheline ...

Work in progress. Some new work/ experiments happening in the studio. Although I worked with clay as a amateur potter years ago I’ve never tried my hands at sculpting with it, but this one asked to be 3 dimensional so I’m giving it a go. A lot to figure out but always fun learning. Hopefully all will go well and she’ll join me on the #apsleyautumnstudiotour this September at @mollymoldovanstudio #sculpture #clay #wip #studiotour #apsleystudiotour #contemporaryartist #claysculpture ...
