Cathy Pennaertz: Trying Something New!

I’m trying something a little different this year by experimenting with Shellac Resist and underglaze to give my work a bit of a relief surface. 

The Shellac has to be applied during the Greenware (dried unfired clay) stage and sponging the clay away from the dry Shellac surface to give it a raised effect. 

After the Bisque firing, I’ll see how to continue the process with the glaze and then the final Glost Firing. 

Completed today… Brown Clay Greenware with underglaze waiting to dry and bisque fire then glaze and followed with Glost firing.
