Apsley Studio Tour.2022  – Jack Lake Cottage Association – Vivienne Jones

It is of course wonderful to spend time outside whatever the season in Canada, but we also spend a good portion of our time inside the homes and cottages we are so fortunate to have. There we all create our personalized environments, no matter where we live, enhanced by the things we choose to live with.

Whether it’s in your own home, or in other homes you visit, a homeowner’s individuality is expressed through the art and craft that enhances that home. Perhaps it’s an original painting or watercolour on the wall, or a unique crafted wooden table in the sitting room, or artisan-made ceramics or glass, perhaps a handmade cover or tapestry in a bedroom. Perhaps a garden or window ornament interacting with the view.

We all have reactions to unique objects, whether it’s pleasure, stimulation, or curiosity. That something more is being shared, that in fact, such objects tell a story.

Add to that story knowing the background of such art pieces. Where they were acquired, perhaps there’s a memory of meeting the artist who made them, a meaningful glimpse into how they make their work, their inspiration. And now owning that piece has become part of a continued story to share.

A studio tour is part of the wonderful human instinct to connect and share through Art. Each autumn during the Apsley Tour, studios are set up to welcome you, you can meet and share with skilled artists in an array of mediums. Artists making beautiful, thoughtful individual things for people to live with that enhance their lives and homes.

Every artist is inspired in their own unique way and in participating in a Studio Tour they want to share where their inspiration has led them and show the work they are moved to make.

Twenty-nine artists at 12 studio locations are looking forward to welcoming everyone who comes out in the fall.
