Fibre Art

After working for many years in the tech industry, Judy Ranieri retired and began to explore her creative passions.

As a 23 year resident on Chandos Lake in the North Kawarthas, many of Judy’s projects are inspired by nature.

Her love of natural fibres, fabric, colour, design, and textures are major factors in creating one of a kind pieces through her textile and fibre art exploration.

Judy’s process begins with a blank canvas of fabric or felt. With colours drawn from nature, Judy custom mixes her fabric and wool paints to use in the creation of each unique piece. Applying multiple layers of different colours, and through the use of silk screens, resists, dyeing, printing, felting, stitching, and blending, each creation begins to take shape. For fabric pieces, the fabric is then heat set and prepared for quilting. For wool pieces, the wool is wet felted and/or needle felted. Judy uses free motion stitching and thread sketching to create texture and to highlight the design and other elements on each piece.

The result of both fabric and wool pieces is a one of a kind representation of what started as a vision inspired by nature.

Judy has formal training in wool painting, felting, fabric painting and quilting through courses taken in Toronto, Apsley, Fenelon Falls, Jordan, and the Haliburton School of the Arts.

She welcomes the opportunity to show and discuss her work.
