Painting
David Grieve was first introduced to oil painting by his mother at age 7. He has been painting ever since and has developed a unique distinctive style. David applies thick swaths of oil paint on his canvas, to create images inspired by the Ontario landscape.
While attending the University of Guelph, David was eager to explore a variety of media, but was always drawn back to having a brush in his hand. He was the recipient of the Michael Scotchmere Scholarship and had his first solo exhibition while in Guelph in 1994. David has exhibited across Canada, USA and the UK. He has been making a living through the sale of his art for over 23 years and is currently represented by 15 galleries.
In 2008, David and his wife purchased a cottage on Jack Lake, where he maintains a summer studio. The lake and surrounding landscape has had a profound impact on their lives and his work. Much of his recent work is inspired by early morning canoeing on Jack Lake.
When not enjoying the lake, David is at home in his Brantford studio dreaming about and painting images inspired by the lake.
