Mary Ellen sees the world according to shape, value and colour, immersing the viewer in her bright and glowing watercolour paintings. Through the layering of transparent colours she creates photo realism in her still life, fruit, flowers and waterscapes. She is inspired and challenged by subjects with strong lights, shadows, shapes, colours and is especially drawn to high contrast and bright colours. Every painting is a new experience as she bends and extends theories and fundamental techniques. She is happy to still be able to learn as she paints.
Mary Ellen has travelled the continent teaching, has been in numerous juried shows, competitions, exhibitions and workshops, and displays her works in local shows and galleries.
Mary Ellen lives and works in Lindsay Ontario. She has won several awards for her work including First Place Watercolour 2017 Art Aurora Show for “Apple & Lace”, as well as the 2015 Buckhorn Art & Wildlife Show’s First Place Watercolour Award and the People’s Choice Award for “Basking in Hawaii”.
When she’s not hard at work on her next creation Mary Ellen enjoys spoiling her grandchildren, boating, golfing, cooking and reading.
‘TULIP FESTIVAL’
Are you are an intermediate or advanced watercolour artist wanting to upgrade and sharpen your skills and techniques? Consider this 2-session class with Mary Ellen Gerster!
You’ll learn key techniques to bring realism into your paintings by using strong lights, shadows, shapes, and colours into your work? Under Mary Ellen’s guidance, you will learn to stretch and build on the techniques and rules you already know. Students will complete this stunning floral, ‘TULIP FESTIVAL’.
Note: Not suitable for beginners. Students are expected to have a good working knowledge of watercolour techniques, colour theory, and composition.
2-day class: Sundays, June 1st & 8th, 9-4 each day.
