Carolyn’s abstract paintings and handwoven tapestries reflect an intuitive approach, a love of colour, and attention to detail. In response to the basic structure of weaving, each tapestry embodies geometric forms, numerical rhythms, or unexpected imagery that emerges at the loom without prior design. Some paintings are gestural expressions of vibrant colour, others convey intricate geometric patterns. The interplay between acrylic painting and textile art is evident in works that evoke textile structures and those that emphasize the canvas itself as a pliable fabric.
Carolyn completed postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Art, U.K., and the University of Toronto. Her art has been exhibited in Canada, USA, and England. A lifelong cottager at Chandos Lake, she now lives and has her studio there year round. The exploration and innovation involved in creative processes is a constant inspiration for new work.
Thanks to Jacques Deslauriers, Carolyn shares the beautiful Studio L venue and looks forward to seeing you during the 2024 Apsley Studio Tour.
