“Reflecting the importance of relationships”

The theme of ‘family’ came to me whilst I was working away in my studio during the pandemic. I am an immigrant and all of our relatives are in the UK. I was thinking about them a lot at the time and wondered when we would be able to see them again. 

The lamp reflects the importance of relationships and the development of a family. It starts with a couple, as time passes they have a baby and then the baby grows into a toddler.  The carved images around the lamp tell this narrative. 

The photo shows the lamp in the nursery of a previous student of mine. I had two friends that came for pottery lessons together and one bought the lamp for her friend when she had her first child. It’s particularly special as I know both the recipient and the buyer.
