Jillian Messervey is a Peterborough-based weaver, who loves slow, careful, and deliberate work. Inspired by colours and textures that she sees in nature, she uses natural fibres and traditional patterns to make hard-working and functional pieces that also decorate the home or wearer. Her blankets, scarves and towels are all woven by hand on her multiple floor looms.
In addition to making, Jillian is a savvy fixer, moonlighting as an object conservator. She also teaches object conservation at a local college.
We might lose power again, but in this little reprieve while the lights are lit, the toilet is flushing and the oven is hot, I’m slipping on here to tell you that it’s been a really beautiful day. And yep, you can cook nearly anything on a bbq. ••• #handwoven #cloth #offtheloom + #inthewoods
Found these twins in the woods - I think they grew up and around a fallen tree, but I can’t be sure. The snow is so deep in the woods right now that I snowshoed into this spot and had to stomp down to make a stable wrap spot (which is why I look like such a shorty). Love the winter, love the woods. ••• #handwoven #cloth #offtheloom and #kneedeepinthesnow #twinoaks
